Oh, there is so much said, sang, done and wished for, in a quest for freedom.
We know it all. We want it all. Freedom is on every man’s wish list.
But what is it that makes us shy away from it? What makes us believe we have to do certain things what other people want, rather than becoming free to do what we want? What makes us complacent and fearful? What makes us go and work for someone whose values and principles are not in line with ours? What makes us settle for mediocre and think we are not worthy to express ourselves to feel better. What stops us from having higher quality of life? What stops us from creating the highest value we can create in this world?
In most cases it is our low self-esteem that drives the way. When we feel unworthy or incapable we feel small, restricted, unlovable and ugly. There is no freedom there. There is a lot of fear. Unresolved fear creating more fear.
Freedom starts when we face fear and move towards it and together with it. Yes, it may feel scary but we move. Move into the direction where our heart is longing for. Move towards something dear to our heart that has been sitting there for years. That is freedom. Freedom of choice.
My friend Bill Roller did a study with Phil Zimbardo (an infamous Stanford prison experiment) on group dynamics and the new heroism as an ethical alternative for freedom. Interestingly, it’s down to thought-leaders and freedom-seeking people who have higher self-esteem to start being heroic. Not in a sense of fighting but standing by values and principles that are within us and listening to our heart. When we listen to our heart we have a healthy mind and thus we move towards freedom.
That is a healthy way to experience it.
So I invite everyone to challenge ourselves to have more freedom this week.
Just be yourself, do what you love, experiment and show your quirky personality. You will be surprised.
Remember, behind your deepest fears lie your biggest dreams…
With love & gratitude,
Darya
