Good day, beautiful! Here is your ‘News to ENRICH’ #3. And today we are talking about a depth of inhale.
Breathing is the process of moving air from in and out of lungs. It includes inhalation and exhalation. It can be conscious or unconscious. Conscious practice may include forms of yoga like pranayama, or tai chi and qigong, whereas unconscious practice can be found in all sort of sports and aerobic exercises. The main effect of such practices is a deeper inhalation that causes a deeper exhalation and thus, stimulates our parasympathetic system that relaxes the body and mind. That is what we want to achieve in order to feel comfortable, peaceful and safe.
Few of us know that it’s best to breath with our nose. The nose has a four-stage filtration system (those little hairs inside make wonders!). By breathing into the mouth you go straight to stage hour. This can result in sore throats, tonsillitis and ear infections. If you have been to a yoga or tai chi class you know that a breath-in through your nose is one of the fundamental rules. Also in sport, if you want to keep stamina and health up, trainers instruct to breathe through your nose, at least to inhale.
I have also prepared a short exercise that I would like to share with you. It can help you explore your depth of inhale, and thus get in a more relaxed and peaceful place.
